Earthquake in Croatia, no impact on the Slovenian Krško nuclear power plant.
Following the reports of the earthquake that occurred at 6.28 am, with its epicenter in Croatia, at the city of Sisak, ISIN immediately contacted the Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration (SNSA) to which they were inquired about the state of the Krško nuclear power plant.
The SNSA confirmed that the seismic instrumentation in the Slovenian power plant, located about 90 km from the epicenter, found that the intensity measured was below the threshold that would require interventions by the plant's personnel. The event therefore had no effect on the plant, which continues to operate normally.
The Krško nuclear power plant, was built in 1974 and went into operation in August 1982. Located along the Sava river, it is about 130 km from the city of Trieste and is the closest to the Italian borders.
The Italian (ISIN - National Inspectorate for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection) and Slovenian (SNSA - Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration) Nuclear Safety Authorities are in constant contact. Thanks to a bilateral agreement signed in 2010 and recently renewed, they are committed to guaranteeing cooperation on nuclear safety and the prompt exchange of information in the event of a radiological and nuclear emergency.
