National deposit, the SO.G.I.N. publishes the CNAPI

The consultation phase opens, lasting two months. The national seminar will be held within 120 days of publication.

After the green light from the ministries of Economic development and the Environment, SO.G.I.N. has published the National Charter of potentially suitable areas (CNAPI) and the preliminary project.
An important step forward towards the construction of the national repository, which will definitively host the Italian radioactive waste of low and medium activity.
The areas have been identified by SO.G.I.N. after a complex selection process on a national scale and in light of international location criteria, based on safety requirements for the protection of man and the environment, established by the ISPRA Technical Guide no. 29.
The CNAPI was validated by ISIN after verifying compliance with these criteria.
The consultation phase is now underway, lasting two months; within 120 days of publication, a national seminar will be held in which various subjects will participate including ISIN, local authorities, trade associations, trade unions, universities, research bodies, qualified stakeholders.
Having collected the observations, SO.G.I.N. will elaborate a proposal for CNAI (National Charter of Eligible Areas). This phase provides that the Ministry of Economic Development approves, on the technical opinion of the ISIN control body, the final version of the CNAI, which will be the result of the application of the location criteria and the contributions that emerged and agreed in the various phases of the public consultation . Published the CNAI, SO.G.I.N. will collect the expressions of interest from the Regions and local authorities in whose territories the suitable areas fall.
The CNAPI and the preliminary project are available on the website www.depositonazionale.it, edited by SO.G.I.N ..
