Piemonte, yesterday the meeting on the National Deposit

The "Nuclear transparency and participation working group - 1st information meeting on the national radioactive waste deposit" of Piemonte was held yesterday in remote mode.

A few days after the publication of the CNAPI and the preliminary project, ISIN, SO.G.I.N. and local authorities (Provinces and Municipalities) have initiated a first comparison on various aspects, including the criteria and phases of localization of the National Repository and the Technology Park.

The facility, which will extend over 150 hectares, will house 95,000 m3 of radioactive waste, of which 78,000 are low and very low activity and 17,000 are medium and high activity.

Currently, the Piemonte Region hosts 5,605 m3, for a total of 2.115.658 GBq of activity (73.4% of the national total). The data are contained in the ISIN National Radioactive Waste Inventory, updated as of 31 December 2019.

Of the 67 areas identified in Italy and indicated in the CNAPI, 8 are in Piemonte (6 in the province of Alessandria and 2 in the province of Turin).
