Safety of radioactive waste and decommissioning, the meeting of the ENSREG WG in Rome

The Working Group on Radioactive Waste and Decommissioning, established within the ENSREG (European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group) met today in Rome, at the ISIN headquarters.

The meeting, opened by the director of the Inspectorate, Maurizio Pernice, was started by the president of the Working Group and coordinator of the ISIN Council, Stefano Laporta, and by the deputy director, Lamberto Matteocci.

The participants discussed different issues of common interest, carrying out a technical analysis of the indicators used to evaluate the state of implementation of the national programs on the management of radioactive waste and the methods of reporting the inventories to international organizations and, in particular, in implementation of Directive 2011/70/Euratom on the safe management of radioactive waste. This, in order to prepare specific technical positions of the ENSREG useful for the Member States for the implementation of the obligations established by the Directive.

In the light of the recent report of the European Commission on the state of application of the Directive, the ENSREG Working Group discussed the various national experiences.

The next meeting of the Working Group will be held in october in Luxembourg, at the European Commission headquarters.
