STRIMS, the registration and data communication obligations are underway

From January 20, 2022, the initial term of the registration and communication obligations of the data on the ISIN STRIMS portal begins, governed by Legislative Decree 101 of 2020.

Persons who carry out intermediation, trade, possession and transport of radioactive materials and sources of ionizing radiation, or who manage collection operations, are obliged to register and periodically transmit data relating to the materials, sources and radioactive waste object of the respective activity, radioactive waste treatment and storage.

To date, over 5500 users have already been registered, corresponding to over 6000 locations.

Of these users: over 5,000 own X-ray machines and/or sources of ionizing radiation subject to notifications or to specific authorization measures; 88 trade in radioactive materials or sources of ionizing radiation; 79 are subjects who carried out transport activities of radioactive materials; 120 are the holders of high activity sealed springs; 69 are holders of special fissile materials, raw materials, minerals and nuclear fuel; 8 carry out radioactive waste collection and transport activities and 12 carry out radioactive waste management activities.

Furthermore, starting from 21 January, in addition to the registration, the obligations to communicate the information required by Legislative Decree 101/2020 take effect, for example: data relating to commercial operations, shipments and transport, production of new waste, the possession of new sources of ionizing radiation or the cessation of possession.
