The 39th meeting of the ENSREG Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning Working Group is starting today

The Working Group on radioactive waste management and decommissioning, set up within the ENSREG (European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group), the Group of Nuclear Safety Authorities set up within the European Commission, will take place today on 10 and 11 February.

The meeting, which takes place via video conference, is conducted by the president of the Working Group and coordinator of the ISIN Council, Stefano Laporta, and by Mario Dionisi, technical manager of the Service for the management of radioactive waste and for the transport of radioactive materials. 

Participants discuss various issues of common interest in relation to the state of implementation of national programs on radioactive waste management, defined by Directive 2011/70 / Euratom on the safe management of radioactive waste. This, in order to prepare specific technical positions of ENSREG useful both to the Commission to promote specific community initiatives in the field of radioactive waste management and to the Member States for the implementation of the obligations set off by the Directive.

In particular, the Agenda includes: a review of the experiences of EU countries in defining the parameters that influence the path for completing the decommissioning activities, a comparative analysis on the control of the management of radioactive waste of medical-health origin and the optimization of the IRRS and ARTEMIS revision processes envisaged by the EURATOM Directives on nuclear safety and on the safety of radioactive waste management.
