The annual report to the Government and Parliament is online
The Inspectorate presents the annual report on the institutional activities carried out in 2023, including inspection, supervisory, preliminary and authorization activities, radioactivity control, decommissioning, the process for identifying the national repository and the traceability of radioactive waste (STRIMS system). The document also contains information regarding the technical-scientific support provided to the Prefectures, within the commissions established for the management of existing exposure situations, and to the Department of Civil Protection regarding nuclear and radiological emergencies.
The 2023 Report of the Inspectorate on the state of nuclear safety in Italy was, as required by current legislation, transmitted to the Government and Parliament and is signed by the pro tempore director Maurizio Pernice, who left the Inspectorate at the end of April.
The document represents an important tool for taking stock of the objectives achieved by ISIN and indicating guidelines for future actions.
The implementation of effective controls and high levels of safety to protect the population, workers and the environment from the risks of ionizing radiation constitutes the institutional mission of the ISIN. This general objective is expressed in actions aimed at implementing increasingly effective organizational measures and technical solutions constantly in line with the evolution of scientific knowledge at an international level. The Inspectorate is also committed to strengthening supervision and control activities, consolidating scientific capabilities and skills, developing relationships and exchanges of international knowledge and experience, planning generational turnover in the ISIN workforce so as not to lose the of experience gained so far and prevent continuity in the assigned functions and tasks.
