In Thun the bilateral meeting between the nuclear safety inspectorates of Italy and Switzerland

The ninth meeting of the Italian-Swiss Commission (CIS) for cooperation in nuclear matters began this morning in Thun, Switzerland.

The two general directors, Mark Kenzelman and Maurizio Pernice, and technical delegations of the inspectorates participate in the periodic meeting between the control authorities of the two countries - ENSI and ISIN.

In his introduction, the director of ISIN illustrated the changes in the legislative field that have occurred in the regulatory system since the previous bilateral meeting in 2020.
In particular, the lawyer Pernice focused on the regulatory changes introduced by Legislative Decree 101 of 31 July 2020. The Director also illustrated the main activities in which ISIN is engaged, in addition to the "institutional" skills of controlling the management of radioactive waste and decommissioning.

The inspectorate is in fact involved, due to its control and guarantee skills, in the site location procedure for the National Deposit which was launched at the beginning of 2021 and is still in progress. The ISIN has also been involved, together with other institutions, in the drafting of the new National Plan for Nuclear Emergencies.

The meeting will end in the evening. An ISIN delegation will visit the Mühleberg nuclear power plant tomorrow.
