Operational and training synergies: the ISIN director at the Joint Center for Military Application Studies - CISAM in Pisa

The Director of the Inspectorate, Francesco Campanella, visited the Joint Center for Military Application Studies - CISAM in Pisa today, talking, in particular, with the director Admiral Mauro Galliussi and with General Michele Sirimarco, Extraordinary Commissioner for the development of renewable energy for Defense.
The occasion was useful to verify the state of decommissioning of the nuclear plant present at Cisam and to evaluate any projects for the reuse of the site, also in relation to possible collaborations between the Center and the ISIN, further conceivable in light of the now imminent signature on the collaboration agreement that will allow the Inspectorate and the Navy to start operational and training synergies. An added value for the country, especially in view of the possible developments connected with the "sustainable nuclear" hypothesised in the delegation bill, about to be examined by Parliament.
The Director of the Inspectorate spoke at the conclusion of the 66th training course “Modular reactors: technological and radiation protection aspects”, organized by the Italian Association of Radiation Protection in collaboration with the Inter-Force Center for Military Studies and Applications - CISAM of Pisa, which also saw the presence of the Deputy Director General and Head of the Safeguard Department of the IAEA, Eng. Massimo Aparo. In particular, Campanella was able to represent the prospects for possible licensing activities that ISIN - as an independent regulatory Authority - will have to develop in the near future with a view to relaunching a phase of nuclear energy production. He also illustrated the potential and possible critical issues along a path that will have to lead to a consolidation of the specific skills of the Authority, an objective that is clearly inseparable from that of the numerical strengthening of its staff. The creation of partnerships with other regulatory authorities and a constant interface with the IAEA will constitute essential stages in the growth process of ISIN.
