Management of nuclear or radiological emergencies, ISIN participates in the 2-day international exercise scheduled by the IAEA
The international nuclear emergency exercise called ConvEx-3 (Convention Exercise Level 3), organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency, took place again this year.
These exercise activities - scheduled for a long time - aim to test the response of the States that are party to the international Conventions of prompt notification and assistance, in the face of anomalous scenarios related to hypothesized accidents in the nuclear and radiological field.
ISIN participated in the exercise - in this case related to a hypothetical accident that occurred in another State, namely this time in the Cernavoda plant, in Romania - as the competent Authority for Italy.
The two days of work allowed to test the national response system also in relation to the interface with the international system coordinated by the IAEA, to possibly highlight the critical issues to work on in order to optimize communication flows.
During the exercise, ISIN activated its Nuclear Emergency Center, the National Network for Surveillance of Environmental Radioactivity (RESORAD) and coordinated the activities of the Data Processing and Evaluation Center (CEVaD), obviously involving operationally all the Administrations participating in it, in particular testing the ability to provide the assistance requested, in these cases, at an international level.
