ISIN granted international patent in the USA

On March 10, 2026, the United States "Patent and Trademark Office" granted an invention patent to the National Inspectorate for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection.

The invention patent, titled "METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE ABSOLUTE DETECTION EFFICIENCY OF THE LaBr3(Ce) SCINTILLATION DETECTOR WITH RESPECT TO A LARGE-SIZED GLASS FIBER INSTALLED IN A HIGH-VOLUME AIRBORNE SAMPLING SYSTEM," was developed by ISIN Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Massimo Altavilla (inventor).

The invention in question can be used mainly in automatic radiological monitoring systems operating for radiological/nuclear early warning purposes, for which the state of the art does not provide for the calculation of the absolute detection efficiency with respect to the probability of particulate matter deposition on the filter itself and, consequently, the accurate measurement of radionuclides of natural and/or anthropogenic origin present in atmospheric particulate matter.
