Nuclear Safety, ISIN at the 151st Meeting of the OECD-NEA Steering Committee on Nuclear Energy
The Steering Committee on nuclear energy, which included the Inspectorate's participation for the first time, met in Paris from April 23 to 24 at the OECD-NEA (Nuclear Energy Agency) headquarters.
Discussions on the first day focused on planning the NEA's activities and scheduling the calendar and activities for preparing the strategic plan for the period 2029-2034.
The NEA working groups also updated attendees on events in 2025, sharing insights on nuclear safety, stakeholder engagement, and "new" nuclear energy, which are of particular interest to the Inspectorate.
The morning of April 24 was dedicated to a policy briefing on "The Impacts of Export Controls on Global Nuclear Trade and Cooperation." After an introduction by NEA Director General William D. Magwood and a presentation by the Division of Nuclear Law, the discussion included contributions from government representatives from France, Poland, and the United States, as well as representatives of the nuclear industry, including Westinghouse, Edlow (USA), EDF, and Hitachi.
The next meeting of the Steering Committee will take place on October 22-23, 2026.
