ISIN delegation at the Mountain Air Force Center on Mount Cimone. Campanella: "Synergy with the Defense Forces is the best possible response to any nuclear and radiological emergencies."

On June 25, an ISIN delegation, led by Director Francesco Campanella, visited the Mountain Air Force Center (CAMM).
The CAMM, consisting of a Logistics Zone in Sestola (MO) and an Operations Zone, atop Mount Cimone, at 2,165 meters above sea level in the Modena Apennines, represents a center of excellence for environmental monitoring and meteorological studies, as well as a strategic site for telecommunications.

By virtue of its activities, its ideal geographic location, the quality of its processes, and the data produced, the CAMM meteorological station is the only one in Italy to be recognized as "global" and included, along with 30 others worldwide, in the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW).

Taking advantage of the site's unique qualities, ISIN installed the last of six high-volume, high-sensitivity environmental radioactivity monitoring stations of the REMRAD network within the Operational Area last December, under a Concession Agreement with the Italian Air Force.
The commissioning of this station marks the completion of the REMRAD network renewal and upgrade process, begun in 2022.

During the meeting, the ISIN delegation visited the "O. Vittori" Climate Observatory of the CNR Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC), also located in the Operational Area and part of the GAW station, along with the CAMM systems.
Finally, the meeting also represented an excellent opportunity to confirm and strengthen the synergies between the various agencies, with a view to ensuring the protection of the environment and the population.
Director Campanella thanked the Air Force, and in particular the Commander, Deputy Commander, and all personnel serving at the Monte Cimone Mountain Center, and expressed his hope for "the enhancement of a synergy of expertise between the Inspectorate and all the Defense Forces, in order to best implement—and in accordance with mutual institutional responsibilities—essential functions and related technological equipment that can enable the country to provide the best possible response to any nuclear and radiological emergencies."
