Campanella at the Sofia International Summit: “ISIN a key player in the new nuclear safety culture”

ISIN Director Francesco Campanella was among the international experts participating in the opening panel of the fifth international conference on nuclear energy currently taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Director was asked to share the experiences and challenges the Inspectorate—as Italy’s regulator—is facing at a pivotal moment for defining both future national energy policies and the potential role of a new Italian nuclear program. His comprehensive address highlighted the significant efforts ISIN—an independent regulatory authority—has been making, particularly over the last two years, to contribute to the development of a renewed nuclear culture.
Achieving this goal requires pairing knowledge of the technologies likely to be used for future nuclear power generation with a greater awareness of the nuclear safety and radiation protection challenges our country already manages daily—maintaining the highest quality standards and great technical-scientific expertise. These challenges will persist regardless of the energy policy decisions ultimately made by the Government and Parliament. The presentation on the cultural and methodological approach promoted by ISIN was highly appreciated; it sparked a discussion among the regulators attending the conference, fostering the kind of shared framework for dialogue and exchange that represents one of the most valuable outcomes of such events.
