Memorandum of understanding signed between ISIN and NNSA, the United States authority for "security" in the nuclear field.

Signed yesterday an important memorandum of understanding, lasting 10 years, between the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) of the Department of Energy of the United States of America (DOE), which includes among its main tasks the prevention of proliferation nuclear and global reduction of the risk of illegal acts with nuclear and radioactive materials, and the National Inspectorate for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ISIN).

The two institutions have undertaken to collaborate for the exchange of information and good practices, promote training and research activities and ensure the physical protection of nuclear materials and plants to prevent and control illegal acts.

The memorandum of understanding with the NNSA adds to the agreement already in place for years with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the authority that regulates the safety of nuclear plants and the use of radioactive substances in the United States, and will constitute an important point reference for the ISIN in carrying out its tasks of regulation and control of the physical protection of nuclear materials and installations, in close correlation with aspects of nuclear safety.
