Safety and radiation protection criteria for radioactive waste surface disposal plants, online the ISIN Technical Guide no. 32

The Technical Guide n. 32, prepared by the Inspectorate, establishes objectives and general safety and radiation protection criteria for the qualification of the site, the design, construction, operation, closure and post-closure of surface disposal facilities for radioactive waste.
The text takes into account the most up-to-date international standards on the subject and incorporates, in particular, the recommendations of the IAEA, the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency, and the safety requirements developed by WENRA, the Western European Nuclear Regulators' Association, on the decommissioning of nuclear installations.
The text was the subject of a public consultation which ended on January 31, 2022 and from which 62 comments and proposed amendments emerged. Most of them have been evaluated admissible and implemented in the updated revision of the Technical Guide; at the conclusion of the analyzes and evaluations carried out, the Inspectorate has drawn up the updated revision of the Technical Guide no. 32.
