The new edition of the ISIN national Inventory of radioactive waste is online

Updated December 31, 2021

The report contains informations relating to volumes, masses, physical state, specific activity, radioactivity content and storage conditions of the waste, including spent fuel and decommissioned sources.

Prepared on the basis of the data that, annually, the various operators, who are responsible for the primary responsibility for the safe storage and management of the waste, transmit to the Inspectorate, the new edition is updated to 31 December 2021.

The ISIN Inventory shows that, in 2021, compared to the previous year, the volume of radioactive waste held in Italy increased: the total is 31,812.5 m3 (+ 60.9 m3). On the other hand, the balance in terms of radioactivity is negative: the total activity of radioactive waste is equal to 2,785,393.9 GBq, with a decrease, compared to 2020, of 43,541.16 GBq.

Which italian regions hold the largest volume of radioactive waste? What were the changes, compared to 2020, and why? And in terms of radioactivity?

This and much more information in the ISIN Inventory, which can be consulted and downloaded at the link.
