ISIN coordinates Italy's membership of the IAEA network for assistance in the event of nuclear and radiological emergencies.

Since the beginning of 2022, RANET has made 8 deliveries of equipment to Ukraine

Thanks to the ISIN, which coordinated its registration, Italy becomes part of the RANET (Response and Assistance NETwork), created by the IAEA.

RANET, which allows international assistance to be provided to countries in conditions of nuclear or radiological emergency that request it, is therefore today made up of a group of 41 states.

Through this network, in order to help mitigate the consequences of nuclear or radiological emergencies for human health and the environment, the participating countries carry out radiological measurements and offer advice, medical care and specialized equipment.

The RANET network was formally established in 2000 and meets the obligations defined by the Convention on assistance in the event of a nuclear accident or radiological emergency, adopted in 1986 after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Each country can register its own National Assistance Capacities (NACs) which are made available within RANET; Italy has offered a complete set of NACs belonging to ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development), which include radiometric surveys, the search for lost radioactive sources and their placing in safety, evaluation and analysis activities for accidents in nuclear plants, dose evaluation, decontamination.

Italy was the first country, in 2023, to register on the RANET network: the ISIN played a fundamental role in this operation, acting as an interface between the Incident and Emergency Center - IEC of the IAEA, the Diplomatic Representation at the international organizations in Vienna and ENEA.

Since the beginning of 2022, RANET has made 8 deliveries of equipment to various organizations and facilities of Ukraine, which included radiation measurement devices, protective equipment, computer related assistance, power systems and communication systems.
