Latina Nuclear Power Plant, the public consultation on the draft authorization decree of decommissioning published by the MISE opens.

ISIN established specific provisions and will monitor the correct performance of the activities.

The draft decree authorizing SO.G.I.N. has been published on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development for the execution of the decommissioning operations, Phase 1, of the Latina nuclear power plant.

The public consultation process will last 30 days.

In Phase 1 (Reduction of the NPP) the dismantling of the buildings and auxiliary plants, the reduction of the reactor building's elevation, the treatment and the storage of the waste in the temporary deposit of the site is foreseen.

The final configuration of Phase 1 involves the reduction of the Plant up to about 45% of the current volume.

The draft decree was prepared on the basis of the opinion of the ISIN, provided taking into account the observations of the administrations involved (Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and of Social Policies, Lazio Region and Municipality of Latina). In the document, the Inspectorate has established a set of prescriptions, both managerial and technical, which SO.G.I.N. will have to respect during the activities.

Furthermore, a list of “Decommissioning Projects, relevant from safety and radiation protection pointof view  and related to groups of activities of the same type, divided into “Detailed Projects” or “Plans of Operations”, is defined. For their implementation prior approval of ISIN is requested.

At the end of Phase 1, the decommissiong will proceed with the dismantling of the nuclear island: this phase, which also includes the final release of the site without radiological constraints, will be implemented  when  the National Repository  is available and willbe subject to a further authorization procedure.
