In ordinary and exceptional situations, the strength of collaboration between the RESORAD Network laboratories

The webinar "NORM-2021 Inter-laboratory Comparison for the laboratories of the National Environmental RADioactivity Surveillance Network (RESORAD)" webinar was held today, in which representatives of ISIN, of the National Institute of Metrology of Ionizing radiation of ENEA (ENEA-INMRI), of the Regional Agencies and Autonomous Provinces for the protection of the environment (ARPA / APPA) and of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institutes.
The RESORAD network is made up of a set of laboratories that guarantee adequate levels of accuracy, comparability and reliability of the measurements as confirmed by the presentation and sharing of the results of the recently concluded “ILC NORM 2021” inter-laboratory comparison.
Today's meeting was organized within the framework of the Convention, stipulated by the Inspectorate and ENEA, in November 2020 and concluded in March 2022. Under the agreement, an inter-laboratory comparison exercise (ILC) was conducted on radiometric measurements of gamma spectrometry for subjects participating in the RESORAD network, with large participation by laboratories, as many as 28 out of 30.
The ILCs are designed to ensure the reliability of the environmental radioactivity measurements carried out by the participating laboratories and to ensure the traceability of the measurements to national samples, developed by ENEA - INMRI and, therefore, their compatibility at international level.
"The RESORAD Network ensures national monitoring in both ordinary and exceptional conditions" - said Maurizio Pernice, director of ISIN, during his greeting to the webinar participants. "The effectiveness of the collaboration between the laboratories was amply demonstrated in 2011, on the occasion of the tsunami that struck Fukushima, and we can see it even today, with the war events taking place in Ukraine. The laboratories have in fact made their data immediately available, indispensable for an effective and real evaluation of the current situation ".
Full satisfaction also on the part of the president of ENEA, Gilberto Dialuce, who stressed that "the agreement between the two bodies has made it possible to obtain reliable measures, supported by objective evidence, which offer citizens important guarantees".
Wide participation and interest in the day with over 70 participants.
Today, with an inter-laboratory comparison concluded, it is a shared opinion that the collaboration will not be limited to being an isolated event but the first of a long period of periodic comparison.
