Rabdan Academy students visiting the ISIN Emergency Center

The Inspectorate for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection hosted a group of students from the Rabdan Academy in Abu Dhabi. These are the best students of the Risk management and Emergency Response course, accompanied by Professor Carlotta Rodriquez, in Italy for a series of meetings and visits to various national institutions involved in emergency management.

The visit in ISIN included some presentations on the role of the Inspectorate in supporting the management of nuclear and radiological emergencies, on the functioning of the early warning networks and on the national surveillance network of environmental radioactivity RESORAD and on the Emergency Center. Students were also engaged in an exercise, during which the management of a cross-border nuclear accident was simulated.

The Emergency Center constitutes the operational structure of the ISIN in response to a nuclear or radiological emergency. The role of the Inspectorate, recalled by the National Plan for the management of radiological and nuclear emergencies (DPCM March 14, 2022), is to provide the Department of Civil Protection and the Operational Committee with the technical elements necessary for the adoption of protective measures for the population as well as public information.

In the event of an emergency, ISIN hosts and coordinates the activities of the Data Processing and Evaluation Center (CEVaD), a technical structure supporting the Civil Protection Authorities, for the assessment of radioactivity levels in the environment in an emergency situation and the consequent levels of exposure.
