The nuclear safety and regulatory framework for the safe transportation of radioactive material is robust but denials and shipment delays may occur. With more than 40 million nuclear medicine procedures performed each year, denial or interruption of shipments can have significant effects on patients undergoing cancer treatment or awaiting diagnosis, the sterilization of healthcare products, and the advancement of nuclear science, research and development.
In the afternoon, the side event entitled "Enhancing access to the peaceful uses of nuclear: Addressing delays in and denials of shipments", organized by Australia, will be held, the main objective of which is to share challenges and updates.
The participation of the Inspectorate is considered of particular importance since it represents an important recognition of the commitment that, through active participation in the meetings of international committees and working groups, the Italian State instills in the development of a global regulatory framework for safe transport of radioactive material.
